Download Page for Mac computers

Version 6p8p1

Macintosh computers have significantly changed over the past several years as Apple heads towards combining features found on iPhones (IOS) with several improvements of the Mac OS. Many of these are security features which tend to make codes such as Caver Quest more difficult to compile for the latest operating systems. To further compound these issues, Apple has switched from using Intel processors to their own improved Apple Silicon chips which offer better security and greater speed and efficiency. The Apple M1 & M2 processors have been out for over a year and now we are seeing even faster silicon in new machines that require 64-bit installers and programs. Even many of the previous 32-bit Adobe programs that cave cartographers and publishers are using still will not run on the new, faster Apple silicon including Illustrator, Light Room and Dreamweaver (which this web site uses for web page development).

We will continue to work these issues and appreciate help from our Macintosh Caver Quest test community as we solve compatibility issues. The good news is there is an obvious work-around for the newer M1 chipped Macs, which likely will fix the issue on other systems. The first error screen shown below flags CaverQuest as a possible threat. The 2nd screen shot shows the security preferences button "Open Anyway" Which worked!

This page is the link to downloading the Mac version of Caver Quest Since this is one of the first fan-outs to other NSS cavers outside of our team members, please report any special issues, questions and comments to the developer.

Error report on this Vet. 6.7.3 suggests using Mac OS 10.13

To install the program on a Mac:

1. Copy the CQ6p8p1_Mac.app.zip file to your desktop and unzip it.

2. Drag the "CQ6p8p1_Mac.app" file from the zip folder to your Apps folder.

Mac Operating Systems will give an error about an "unknown developer". The work-around is to go into your security settings under preferences as shown on the right, and click on "Open Anyway". The screen on the right is from Mac OS 10.13. However, for an older system like OS 10.11.6, it appears that CaverQuest v 6.7 is still being blocked. (This is likely an Apple issue with the Unity compiler, and we are looking for a work-around.) We expect the new 2023 CQ versions will see the same issue.

If you have other issues, you might take a look at this pdf file.
